- The two candidates that are not qualified are Brutus and Cassius. Brutus and Cassius are both responsible for the assassination of Julius Caesar. Cassius hates Caesar because Caesar does not like him. In order for Cassius to get away with killing Caesar, he needs Brutus. Cassius makes Brutus believe that killing Caesar is for the good of Rome. Another reason why Cassius needs Brutus is that Caesar loves Brutus. If Brutus becomes leader after Caesar’s death, it won’t look like it’s for personal motives. In act 1 scene 2 lines 165-170 Cassius speaks to Brutus and says “Now it is Rome indeed and room enough when there is in it but only one man. O, you and I have heard our fathers say there was a Brutus once that would have brooked th’ eternal devil to keep his state in Rome as easily as a king.” This is where Cassius manipulates Brutus into his plan. Also in act 1 scene 2 lines 175-179 Brutus says “I would not, so with love I might entreat you, be any further moved. What you have said I will consider; what you have to say I will with patience hear and find a time both meet to hear and answer such high things.” (All of this is shown on this drawing)
